Outside
The Giant Spine
To increase public awareness of Chiropractic on Chiropractic's 100th anniversary in 1995, Dr. Ari Diskin commissioned the construction of the world's largest reproduction of human vertebrae depicting a Subluxation, which is on display outside the front of his Centre in Victoria Parade, Fitzroy Melbourne Australia. The two bones, one atop the other, with simulated live flashing nerves actually demonstrate a healthy nerve on one side and an irritated nerve on the other side. This model is truly larger than life, actually approximately 15,000 times larger. The structure of two bones measures approximately 1.5 meters (5 feet) wide by 1.5 meters (5 feet) deep and stands 1.5 meters (5 feet) high on top of a stand which supports the one ton structure made of solid plaster and fibreglass. The sculpture has incorporated motion sensor activated four one minute audio messages about its purpose and Chiropractic for passers by.
