A2.
What is Chiropractic?

The primary focus of Chiropractic is the optimum function of your spine and nerve system.  Your nerve system is your master control system, made of a network of fibres, similar to an electrical wiring system.  Interference in the spine may alter the transmission of messages between your brain and any of your body's muscles, organs, and tissues, affecting control and coordination of systems and function throughout your body.  Chiropractic involves specialised care focusing on your spine and nerve system, which effects how you perceive the world, helping you to adapt to life and it's challenging physical, chemical and emotional stresses.

A3.
What is Network Care?  (aka Network Spinal Analysis or NSA previously known as Network Chiropractic)

Network Care is a gentle and specific wholistic approach to wellness Chiropractic.  This contemporary system of care’s focus is to help what you have work better, rather than trying to just “fix” a “problem”.  The intention is not to just “relieve” symptoms (your body’s warning signals), rather to better understand why they are there, and more efficiently listen to your body’s needs.  This process, while not a “pain relief” system, is remarkably effective at helping many feel better amazingly fast.

Network Care helps you to develop the ability to better adapt to stress, by creating new wellness promoting self-awareness and stress busting strategies in your nerve system, for optimal living and self-healing.  As you initially reduce your tension and are better able to respond to outside stressors, you begin to change your nerve system patterns, and develop new more efficient systems to transform your energy of stress into energy of peace and ease.

Network Care involves a systematic process of care and education.  Through a series of sessions, like an exercise program, your care involves specific gentle touch contacts at key locations along your spine, to cue and engage your brain, with the purpose of enhancing communication between your brain and body.  Care advances through levels at particular milestones and can reprogram nerve system energy patterns of stress and pain, into more energy efficient patterns of ease and peace.

Our wellness education involves a series of self help information sessions, to give you the tools to fast-track your results and take more responsibility for you health and wellbeing.

Typical responses include a greater ability for you to: adapt to stress and your environment; make healthier life choices; improve your body awareness; enjoy better quality of life; develop a healthier functioning spine and experience a greater sense of well-being. This process liberates a greater range of body-mind resources for self-healing and wholeness.

Ultimately you are expected to gain the benefits of traditional care, where you feel better, however you are expected to benefit significantly more life enhancing health benefits to improve your quality of your life for the long term. This process liberates a greater range of body-mind resources for self-healing and wholeness.

A4.
How do I know whether I need to see a Doctor of Chiropractic?

Do you want to thrive, or just survive?  Our wholistic approach to Chiropractic, promotes wellness strategies for optimising your function and life, instead of just getting by.  As nerve system stress, like most chronic illness, often has no early warning symptoms; everyone should have their spine checked regularly by a Chiropractor.

What is the differnce between health and wellness?

There are many views, opinions, definitions and practices of health and wellness.
The Diskin Life definitions and practices are as follows:

Health is a physical state/condition of one’s “bodymind”.  Bodymind being the entity of body and mind that are not only related, they are inseparable.  Three essential elements are:
1.     Integrity- Being “whole” (having all your parts)
2.     Function- How efficiently your bodymind works
3.    Adaptability- Your ability to respond and cope to a changing (physical, chemical and emotional) environment

Wellness is a state of mind/attitude of voluntary contextualisation, considering resourcefulness (versus resources).
The way you choose to- live and respond (or react) to life’s situations, and how you feel about your state or circumstances (how you feel about what you have or have not)- What you make of your circumstances (resourcefulness).

What procedures and fees can I expect on my first visit to Diskin Life?

Your first visit involves a thorough assessment with Dr Diskin.  This visit may take up to one hour and includes a comprehensive review of your health and life history profile, needs and objectives.  Your physical assessment will look at your spine, nerve system and related areas.

We use futuristic non-invasive biometric technology recognised by NASA including: computerised EMG (Electromyographic), thermal and heart rate variability scanning.

Progressive Digital Posturography captures your postural images from initial evaluation and subsequent comparisons.

Our thorough assessment of you includes (where indicated), a set of spinal x-rays.

Your second visit is when you receive your assessment results and recommendations.  Your Wellness Chiropractic care usually begins on this second visit.   A fee schedule will be provided at the second (report of findings) visit, which outlines "special payment options" for couples, seniors, students and families, as well as our popular discounted prepayment package options for blocks of care.

A9.
What futuristic biometric computerised assessments are available at Diskin Life?

These scans utilise a completely safe, and non invasive, scientific methods of measuring and recording nerve activity and muscle function associated with spine and nerve system performance.
sEMG (surface Electromyography) is technology that locates, measures and records nerve and muscle patterns, by measuring electrical activity in the muscles supporting your spine.

Thermal (Heat sensing) uses infra red sensors that measure tiny differences in skin temperature, detecting blood flow and circulation patterns, that can reveal altered Autonomic Nerve System interference, which may affect how your organs are working.

HRV (Heart Rate Variability) is cutting-edge technology assessing whole body function. In particular, HRV provides feedback as to your adaptability to stress, by analysing your pulse patterns, and indicates how you may cope in the environment, as well as you capacity for healing.

(Progressive Digital Posturography) captures digital images of your posture, and then analyses them numerically scoring your postural condition. You receive the actual images with the millimetre distortions, as well as any additional stress (in kilograms) on your spine placed by structural imbalances. You will be given a Posture Number™ (a score of your posture- like blood pressure or cholesterol numbers), which is made available through proprietary software unique to this system.

These technologies are used for initial analysis, and as an ongoing measure of changes associated with progress through your Chiropractic care. Their feedback is highly accurate and objective.  Each client receives colour computer-generated reports of their results.

A10.
Do I need X-rays?

X-rays are usually required to obtain a clear blueprint, primarily to view the alignment, patterns and condition of your spine. We have installed a special x-ray system called the Summit High Frequency Low Dose Full Spine Chirotech System.  (The first of its kind in Australia.)  This system produces less radiation than conventional systems, so it's safer for all ages.

Consistent with our ongoing technology updates, we have recently installed a state of the art digital x-ray capture scanner, computers, and viewing screens as an enhancement to our existing high frequency low dose x-ray imaging system, for you when you need a fresh set of x-rays or when you refer your friends and family to us.

Benefits include:
üEven lower exposure factors needed, as post production optimisation can enhance all images.
üQuicker turn around time, as chemical processing is not required, so images can be screened immediately after pictures taken.
üYour new larger than life x-ray images are more easily viewable on our 42 inch high definition LCD screen.
üX-ray images can be burnt onto a CD for your convenience of storage and transport.
üDramatic environmental savings, as there is no need for physical film production, handling, storage, and postage, or chemical handing and disposal.
üMuch faster reporting by the medical Radiologists, as all images are securely sent via the internet and reported on immediately.

These resource savings and quality improvements fulfil our wholistic and progressive goals for you and our environment.

A11.
Is Chiropractic safe?

Yes!  Doctors of Chiropractic provide care for their clients using safe, gentle, and scientific techniques.
Our comprehensive client education program provides information for you to discover self-help strategies and options, and increase your awareness about health, to gain optimum benefit from Chiropractic. You can learn how and why Chiropractic care is safe and appropriate, (and in fact, an integral and vital element of healthy development) for all ages, especially children.

A12.
Do I need a referral from a medical doctor?
A referral is not required from a medical doctor to see a Doctor of Chiropractic.  Doctors of Chiropractic are primary health care providers (the largest primary health care profession in the world, after medicine and dentistry).

A13.
What about babies, children and pregnant women?

Chiropractic is most appropriate for both these groups.  Children are subjected to spinal stresses from their birth, and then everyday from the slips, bumps, falls, and poor posture which all children experience.  The extra stresses of pregnancy and the trauma, which can be associated with the birth process, make Chiropractic care for pregnant women especially important.  Network Care is especially suitable for pregnant women, babies and children, due to its incredibly gentle methods.

A14.
My children are still growing; Is it too early to have their spines checked?

Absolutely not! It is essential for children's spines to be checked for nerve system steres and interference at an early age. The earlier developing problems are detected, the more effective care may be expected. Children lead such active lives, constantly jumping, jarring, bumping, falling and much more. Whilst these activities are a normal part of their development, they may cause stress to a developing nerve system, which may not manifest as symptoms for many years, if ever. Remember; As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.

A15.
Do Doctors of Chiropractic prescribe drugs?

No!  Chiropractic is completely natural, non-invasive, drug and surgery free.

A16.
Do I need to make an appointment?

Yes!  This is so the appropriate time can be allocated for both your and other clients' convenience.

A17.
How old is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic began in 1895, over 114 years ago.

A18.
Are Doctors of Chiropractic registered or licensed practitioners?

Yes!  In Victoria Australia Doctors of Chiropractic must be registered and licensed to practice by the Chiropractors' Registration Board, under the auspices of the Health Department.

A19.
How often do I need to visit my Chiropractor after the first time?

Each person has individual needs, and must be assessed accordingly, and then your Chiropractor can make specific tailored recommendations.  Waiting for pain before your visit a Chiropractor, is like waiting for your teeth to rot before you see a dentist.

A20.
I am not suffering pain.  Should I still have a regular spinal check-up?

Yes!  Just as you should regularly see your dentist for your teeth before they hurt, or service your car before it breaks down, so you should have your spine checked for nerve system stress and interference, by a Chiropractor on a regular basis.

A21.
Does Insurance cover the cost of Chiropractic care?

You may be able to recover some of your cost through a private insurance fund or third party insurer like TAC or WorkCover. You need to contact the relevant authority, and find out how you specifically are covered.

A22.
Why is the spine so important?

The spine is the framework, which supports and protects your spinal cord.  It is like your body's communication conduit.  Your spinal cord (effectively an extension of your brain) and many of your nerves, carry messages to and from your brain and spinal cord through small openings between the vertebrae (spinal bones); to coordinate all body parts and functions.  Through your nerve system you perceive the world; adapt to stress; express emotion and create our conscious reality.  Because of the spine's complexity, its normal movements may be easily disrupted.  Falls, incorrect lifting, repetitive movements, faulty posture and even your emotional state and your chemical intake may cause disruption to the normal functioning of your spine.  These areas of abnormal function typically display spinal cord tension.  You don't need to feel pain to have them.

A23.
When is the best time to have my professional assessment by a Doctor of Chiropractic?

As nerve system stress may be caused as early as during the birth process, you should start as young as possible, since the earlier nerves system stress and interference is detected, the more effective care may be expected.
